Dec 31st

Happy New Year everyone!

The Dec. 30th trip from Roanoke to Nashville was pleasant. Nashville was abuzz with activity as the Music City Bowl was being held, Mississippi State vs Wake Forest. Bruce, we are sorry Wake lost. We saw many WF fans drowning their sorrows with Domaine del la Romanee- Conti Grand Cru, after all they are WF grads and students and have their standards. We, however, attended a Grand Ole Opry show at the downtown Ryman theater. If you do decide to see a show at this venue make sure you bring a seat cushion as the seats are pretty hard! It was quite the show, some members of the Opry are over 90 years old and still performing. One bit of advice passed on by Little Jimmy Dickens was not to take your laxative and sleep pills together. (Click here for more Little Jimmy jokes).

On Dec 31st we travelled to Memphis in beautiful weather and toured Sun Studios the recording studio that launched the careers of many famous artists. We also viewed the mighty Mississippi and walked Beale Street, home to many bars featuring live music. The city was busy setting up for tonight's New Year's festivities and it looked like there would be plenty of live music as stages were being erected everywhere. We decided to bypass our stay just outside Memphis tonight and drove and extra 90 miles to Little Rock, Ar. For those keeping track of our progress with the original schedule we will not be stopping in Oklahoma City tomorrow but plan to make a big push to Amarillo, Tx. (about 590 miles).

Take care and have a happy and safe New Year's eve and day.
